Obviously this isn’t a Porsche story, but any half decent motoring website cannot ignore all of the publicity surrounding the Stig going public.
The Stig has become a household name and is one of the BBC’s better creations. The Top Gear programme wouldn’t be the same without the mystery surrounding the identity of the Stig.
For me it was innevitable that the Stig would want to lift his veil. The Stig has become so famous, that his story, including revealing his identity, has become quite valuble. With the amount of publicity, both positive and negative, one thing is for sure – both Harper Collins and Ben Collins will be alot richer.
For me, I’d rather wished Ben hadn’t decided to open his mouth and reveal the identity of the Stig. Whole point of his creation in the first place was to keep the public guessing. But now we all know and to be honest, we are none the wiser – who is Ben Collins anyway? But I guess that was part of his strategy, to make his name as famous as the Stig. I feel rather sad in a way. The Top Gear programme just won’t be the same.
The good news of course, is that just as the Stig MKI met his un-timely demise, so too will this Stig. All that remains now, is to start guessing who will be the Stig MKIII and most importantly what colour will his Helmet be!
Long live the Stig.
