This is going to seem a very basic question to experienced 911 owners, but I've only owned my 964 C2 for 8 days (after years of wishing!) so here goes. Is the sloshing sound of oil in the tank on the right side of the engine, when the engine is cold, quite normal? It disappears as the engine warms up. The oil level gauge shows the tank to be full, and oil pressure and temperature are normal. There are no oil leaks evident anywhere.

Hi Howard

Welcome to the forums.  Its nice to see another 964 on here.  Hope you enjoy your stay.  :agree:

I have to say I have never heard a sloshing sounds from the oil tank.  Is this something you hear when you are in the car or standing at the back with the engine lid open and the car at idle?

andyc69 on here has a 964 so he may be able to comment better than I.  These are dry sump systems so the oil is scavenged from the engine case and pumped back into the tank, which may make a little noise.  Are you running a standard Porsche oilfilter.  Do you know when ity was last changed?  Perhaps the oil is foaming in the filter.

Maybe andy can comment some more.

Welcome !  i had a 964 for 4 years and yes i did often hear oil moving about the car via the oil lines. never had a problem with it, great cars. There are oil lines that pass around the right hand rear wheel (looking from the rear) if i remember correctly and its probably that which your hearing as the oil moves about the car from pumps, thermostat, cooler etc.

Well worth getting yourself a great book on 964's called the Porsche 911 The Enthusiasts companion, it covers all the 964 range with loads of handy info and tips etc.

Enjoy your car :)
